Obituary for Mrs. E. Rose Chepil (Frizzell)

Mrs. E. Rose Chepil (Frizzell)
E. ROSE CHEPIL
February 28, 1931 – January 2, 2018

Mrs. Rose Chepil, age 86 years, passed away suddenly in Pinewood Court on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.

Mom was born on February 28, 1931, in Fort William, now Thunder Bay. She worked at Thornburrow's Grocery prior to her marriage to Dad, Walter Chepil. Mom was very busy, having six children within 10 years. She made time to always be there for us when we needed help. After her last child was born, she re-entered the paid workforce at Zellers Northwood where she put her love for tropical fish to good use for many years.

Mom and Dad always made sure we had a good time even though times were tough. Fun at camp all summer, cutting the Christmas tree in the bush, watching the Northern Lights, visiting family and friends on special occasions, going out on Halloween, going to church and Sunday school. These were some of the great memories we had and Mom always made them happen, packing us all up and making sure we were clean and fed.

During this time, she was a founding member of the Thunder Bay Centre for the Deaf and felt so happy when the day came that all the fundraising (especially from all those pierogies ) made it possible to purchase a building so that the deaf community has a place to meet and socialize.

After retiring, she spent most of her time with Dad and they enjoyed life, travelling some. They sold their Victoria Avenue home (she still missed you, Ethel Bay), renting at Northwood Apts, finally landing at her Gore Street home. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and just being in the backyard, especially with her Chippy buddy.

After Dad’s death, her Alzheimer’s became so severe, she moved to McKellar Assisted Living and finally to Pinewood Court, where Mom was well taken care of by the wonderful staff of Hummingbird and then Sandpiper. Setting up video chats was the newest adventure for Mom after learning about taking selfies. Thank you to the staff and Wendy for the great care.

Mom was predeceased by her father Henry (in her childhood) and her mother Winifred Frizzell Collins; her husband Walter; daughter Jeanna Chepil-Coyle; granddaughter Stephanie; brother Buddy; brothers-in-law Arthur, Bill, John, Dave and sisters-in-law Marnie, Fran, Linda and Margaret; son-in-law John and other relatives.

Rose is survived by daughters Janice (Peter) Grant, Cheryl (Bob) Smith, Cathy (Rick) McFarlane and sons Danny (Susan) Chepil and David Chepil; grandchildren June & Mike, Sam & Bree, Lua & Shane, Chris & Christy, Andy & Lacey, Tim & Allison, Emily, Dylan & Allisan, Chantal & Ed and Neal as well as step-granddaughter Sherry & Craig and great-grandchildren Tylar, Elijah, Liam, Nolan, Lexi, Spencer, Taylor, Nathaniel and Naturel.

Funeral Services for the late Mrs. Rose Chepil will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 9:30am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James officiated by Rev. Randy Boyd. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Rose to the Alzheimer Society or George Jeffrey Children's Centre would be greatly appreciated.
