Mr. Luigino “Louis” Modesto, age 80 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018 in TBRHSC. Louis was born in Santa Maria di Lestizza, Udine, Italy on August 27, 1938 to Pietro and Bruna Modesto. At the age of 18, Louis made his journey to Canada and worked as an auto body-man at Lakehead Motors and ended his career at Grassia’s Auto Body. When his cousin Arrigo came to Canada, he was so happy and proud. Arrigo was his tie to his beloved Italy. The two of them became brothers and from there became the “Modestos”.

Louis was a member of the DaVinci and other various Italian clubs. He enjoyed countless hours of volunteer work there: spaghetti dinners and building and repairing, and fixing the bocce courts. He would do anything to keep his heritage alive. Louis enjoyed travelling, bocce, soccer, gardening and was known to enjoy a party or two. Most of all, it was his wonderful friends and family that made his life complete, especially his granddaughters.

Louis is survived by his daughter, Malinda (Allen) Hovey; granddaughters, Justine (Laynes) and Danielle (Robert); companion, Marissa Menis and daughters, Sonia Buonocore and Antonella Kuper and families; sister Mimi and nieces, Stefania and Monica in Italy; cousin Arrigo (Grace) Modesto, Barbara, Monica, Michelle and families and numerous other family members in Italy and France.

Predeceased by his parents, Pietro and Bruna and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Services for the late Mr. Luigino Modesto will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 with family and friends gathering in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 9:30am celebrated by Fr. James Panikulam. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm until 4:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James with Vigil Prayers offered at 3:00pm in the chapel.
