Obituary for Mrs. Emily Gelevan

Emily Gelevan
August 25, 1930 - December 3, 2018

It is with joyful sorrow that the family of Emily Gelevan (Kuzminski) share the news that she went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on December 3rd, 2018.

Emily was born to the Kuzminski family in Stuartburn, Manitoba and moved to Fort William with her family in 1942 attending Drew School and Selkirk High. She married William (Bill) Gelevan in 1953.

Emily lived life demonstrating a gift of generous and compassionate hospitality. Her home was always open to friends and strangers alike. Sunday dinner was always prepared in expectation of an extra place or two set for someone that the Lord would put in her path to invite. Emily always enjoyed meeting new people, seeing the best in them, showing interest, and often speaking into their lives.

She loved events and outings and graciously packed up the family for picnics, fishing trips and death-defying camping adventures through the years. Her playful and competitive nature really broke through during games and Friday night cards (Hola) with family. She took great joy in winning.

Emily was employed to do spring planting for the Fort William Conservatory during the 60s and 70s and then went on to work at the Canada Post processing plant until retirement.

A long-time member of Syndicate Avenue Baptist Church (now Lakehead Baptist), Emily was always steadfast in her faith and lovingly demonstrated her love for others with volunteer work and visitation to those who were hospitalized or home-bound.

Family was a source of pride and joy for her and included son, Morris and Linda (Steinke), Douglas, Amber, Christopher; son Willy and Tanis (Enders), Kirsten and Justine; daughter Eileen and Fernando (Dias), David, Nathaniel and Emily; son Daniel and Christine (Sombrutski), Sarah and Rebecca. She also leaves behind her sister Verna Staniecki, and 5 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family whom she prayed for regularly.

Emily is predeceased by her parents, Dora and Jacob Kuzminski, and her siblings Vera, Nancy (Chalet), George, Laverne (Craven), Vickie (Ficek - Pawluk), Leonard and William (Billy).

A celebration of Emily Gelevan’s life will take place on Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Westfort Funeral Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to World Vision Canada  would be appreciated.

I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. - John 11:25

God's Garden
God looked around his garden
And He found an empty place.
And then He looked down upon the earth,
And saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He always chooses best.
He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough,
And the hills were hard to climb,
So He closed your weary eyelids,
And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you.
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
