Mrs. Shirley Pappas, 89 years, of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully at her home at Chartwell Glacier Ridge on January 24, 2019. She was born in Fort William, Ontario on January 20, 1930.

Shirley is survived by her son Bruce (Diana) of Thunder Bay, daughter Christine (Michael Sage) of Ottawa, and daughter Catherine (Patricia Thomson) of Toronto. She is also survived by her sister June Strawson of Langley, B.C., and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by husband Nicholas in 2011, parents Leslie and Winnifred Darby, sister Betty Watkinson, and brother Ray Darby.

Shirley retired from the City of Thunder Bay in 1989 where she worked for many years. She enjoyed attending City of Thunder Bay retirees’ luncheons for many years after her retirement.

Shirley and Nick enjoyed many years of Shrine activity and travel together, and she was a long time member of the Shrine Ladies, the Order of the Eastern Star, and St. Thomas Anglican Church, where she served on the Parish Council and was a Sunday School teacher.

The family would like to thank Dr. Donald Franchi and his staff for their excellent care and kindness. Special thanks also to the staff at Chartwell Glacier Ridge.

Cathy, Christine and Bruce our heartfelt condolences to you during this extremely difficult time. Your mom was such a fond part of my memories growing up on Linwood and especially in the later years, she was such a dear and cherished friend to my mom. I always remember bringing my children over to see her at Halloween as she got such a kick out of their costumes. I also remember pulling in the driveway to my parents and seeing her sitting on the front steps. We'd pop over to chat and she enjoyed catching up on what was going on in the kids lives. Such a lovely lady and a kind soul. Thinking of you all. Marcie, Bob, Havyn, Jarek Jesperson
