Obituary for Mrs. Shirley Pappas (Darby)

PAPPAS

Mrs. Shirley Pappas, 89 years, of Thunder Bay passed away peacefully at her home at Chartwell Glacier Ridge on January 24, 2019. She was born in Fort William, Ontario on January 20, 1930.

Shirley is survived by her son Bruce (Diana) of Thunder Bay, daughter Christine (Michael Sage) of Ottawa, and daughter Catherine (Patricia Thomson) of Toronto. She is also survived by her sister June Strawson of Langley, B.C., and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by husband Nicholas in 2011, parents Leslie and Winnifred Darby, sister Betty Watkinson, and brother Ray Darby.

Shirley retired from the City of Thunder Bay in 1989 where she worked for many years. She enjoyed attending City of Thunder Bay retirees’ luncheons for many years after her retirement.

Shirley and Nick enjoyed many years of Shrine activity and travel together, and she was a long time member of the Shrine Ladies, the Order of the Eastern Star, and St. Thomas Anglican Church, where she served on the Parish Council and was a Sunday School teacher.

The family would like to thank Dr. Donald Franchi and his staff for their excellent care and kindness. Special thanks also to the staff at Chartwell Glacier Ridge.

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Shirley Pappas will be held on Tuesday, January 29, 2018 at 11:30am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Blanchard. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's memory to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
