Obituary for Mrs. Gina Malench (Covi)

The world lost a beloved mother, Gina Malench, on November 23, 2022. Gina passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with her children by her side.

Gina was born in Fondo, Trentino, Italy on October 5, 1940, where she met her future husband, Giovanni Malench. They were married on April 16, 1963. Soon after they immigrated to Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada where they raised their three children Paul, Susan, and Lisa, with love and devotion.

Gina was a very active mother who loved to garden, was an incredible cook, enjoyed painting beautiful landscapes of Thunder Bay, loved walking her two dogs Blinky and Mocha, and often would sneak out to play bocce at Boulevard. She was a long-standing member of St. Anthony’s Church and enjoyed going to the 55 Plus Centre.

Gina is survived by her children, Paul (Karen), Susan, Lisa (Pat) Harvey; grandchildren, Patrick Harvey Jr, Dylan Harvey, Jordan Malench and Nathan Malench; sister in-law Anna (Gaetano) Di Fonzo; brother-in-law Carlo Malench, nephew Rudi (Antonella) Malench, and many other relatives in Italy.

Predeceased by her husband, Giovanni (1996) and her parents, Marco and Rachele Covi; sister Daria (Mario) Malench and niece Emilia Malench.

Funeral services for the late Mrs.Gina Malench will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 with family and friends gathering in St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:30am celebrated by Fr. Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.
